Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) is another common type of skin cancer, and is also related to sun exposure. SCC's do have potential to spread to lymph nodes (eg in the neck), although this is still relatively uncommon.
SCC's often arise in solar keratoses (scaly areas of sun–damaged skin) and occur most commonly on sun–exposed sites such as the face, ears, and hands.
They typically appear as non-healing ulcers or scabs which slowly enlarge over months or years.
Surgical excision by an experienced surgeon is recommended in order to achieve clear margins and an optimal cosmetic result.
