BOTOX®

Increasing numbers of people are enquiring about facial rejuvenation techniques to help them feel better about their appearance.

One such technique is BOTOX® – used to relax specific facial muscles that cause glabellar lines to form.

BOTOX® is a recognised treatment for unwanted wrinkles in the upper part of the face.

BOTOX® is a prescription only medicine, and is only available from qualified medical practitioners.

What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is a natural, purified protein (botulinum toxin type A) derived from bacteria, and is manufactured in sterile laboratory conditions.

How does it work?

Many facial wrinkles occur when we use our muscles to make repeated facial expressions. BOTOX® can be used to relax specific facial muscles that create these wrinkles.

What does treatment involve?

A small amount of BOTOX ® is injected into selected facial muscles using a very fine needle. Generally, BOTOX® for the forehead takes about 10 minutes to administer – no anaesthetic is usually required.

How long does it last?

BOTOX® usually takes 2–3 days to start working, and about 7 days for the full effect. Effects can last for up to 4 months, before the lines slowly start to return. The effects tend to last longer with repeated treatments.

Will facial expressions be affected?

BOTOX® only works on muscles which have been treated, meaning that any muscle untreated should not be affected by BOTOX®. Treatment is individualised to achieve the best results.
